Louisiana and Florida: from tropical wetlands to white sandy beaches...
First day in Louisiana! Waking up to a campground full of water...it was time to leave Lafayette which got another 300 mm of water on that day and which is still flooded, more than a week after we were there. The challenge was to get out of the city as lots of roads were flooded and closed. After a few detours, we finally made it to the New Orleans, dry and safe :-) It was unfortunately not the case for everyone as 12 people died in this episode and several thousands had to be evacuated.
Reaching New Orleans... somewhat dryer, but still some impressive storms throughout our first day there.
The French Quarter...now under the sun!
Experiencing the "Bayou". We were confidently swimming in that identified swimming area when we suddenly discovered...this alligator!! Only a few meters from us, staring at a possible dinner. We were fast to get out of the water and called our new friend "Kiki"!
This one we saw quietly from the river shore...nice to have the time to enjoy the sight!!
Away from the resorts, the state parks and national parks preserve some postcard-like sandy beaches. Dolphins swimming by and sea turtle nests on the beach...
Not as big as the waves in the Pacific, but perfect for a first "surfing" experience!
